LaLiga has fined Levante UD €602 for public order offences during their La Liga match against Sevilla FC. The governing body recorded eight incidents in the stands at the Ciutat de València, seven for offensive chants and one for objects thrown onto the pitch.

The sanction arrives at a sensitive time for the team, who sit 17th in the standings with seven points from eight games. Their next fixture is at home against Athletic Club on Wednesday 21 October, a key match in their bid to climb away from the relegation places.

Details of the incidents

LaLiga's report details the events precisely. In the 11th minute, local fans in sectors 517 and 518 of the Gol Alboraia stand chanted a severe insult against Sevilla for ten seconds. LaLiga said: "In the 11th minute of the match, a group of local fans, located in Gol Alboraia, sectors 517 and 518, chanted in a coordinated and choral manner, for approximately 10 seconds, the chant «Sevillista, hijo de puta, su madre por el culo lo disfruta»."

Throughout the match, chants of "Puta Sevilla"were repeated from the same Levante supporters' stand. The tension, already high, exploded in stoppage time."In the 95:30 minute of the match, the throwing of water bottles, glasses and other objects from the Orriols stand towards the visiting team's players occurred."

The game was stopped for about two minutes. The referee activated the protocol, a warning message was broadcast over the loudspeaker, and no further objects were thrown, allowing the match to conclude. The official included the incident in his match report.

Context and consequences

The granota club had already displayed messages on the video screens reminding spectators of the ban on insults and promoting respect. Despite this, LaLiga's report has been sent to the RFEF Competition Committee and the Anti-Violence Commission. The financial penalty is the immediate consequence for Levante.

This episode casts a shadow over the team's on-pitch battle, having conceded 16 league goals this season. With striker Brugui as top scorer with three goals, the sporting priority is clear. The team needs points and total focus ahead of the clash with ninth-placed Athletic Club. The board and fans will now look to move past this incident and support the team through a decisive period of the calendar.
